So I got kicked out of school...again! Yesterday was a snow day, today a COLD DAY! This is a first for me - staying home because of the extreme cold. I think we are turning into a bunch of wussy wimps!
Yes, once again I got up at 5am, warmed up Dougie the Dodge (I will admit he didn't want to start but after hesitating for a second he roared into life - that's my Dougie!!) and off I went to school. On the way there I heard that all the buses were cancelled once again, even the city school buses. I really didn't think they'd close the schools but I was only there for 10 minutes when the word came down - all schools will remain closed.
Sigh...
Okay, okay, yes I admit it's damn cold out there. -26 with a wind that takes your breath away. But close the schools? And I HAD to leave. It was just me and the custodian there and unless I have the alarm code (which I don't not being an admin type person) then I can't stay.
Crap...
That was me this morning with my Canadian olympic mitts on and my Canada Goose coat with fur hood. I was warm, very warm....once inside my truck! Oh yes, and add glasses and grey hair to that picture, and lots of laugh lines :)
So, darn it all, here I sit in my recliner, drinking my hot lemon and ginger, writing to you. What a drag...hee hee hee. Seriously, I have big plans for the day. Yesterday I got my redecorating mojo back and accomplished a few things...I'll tell you about them later!
Are you doing anything differently to stay warm?? Furnace up a notch or two?
Haha. I think this severe weather is supposed to stop by Friday. If you were to call the admins tomorrow, would they tell you whether they were opening or not? It's really dangerous to go there and come back when you could just not go at all. In such extreme weather, avoiding being out and driving is the best policy! Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteW've gone from plus 8 yesterday and rain, to minus 16... We're going to get the freezing cold again later on today... I just put on heavier Pj's when I'm home, and wear long underwear and my hat at my FT job... It's freezing in my office...
ReplyDeleteWe are home again today too because of the cold. We had record lows here last night with record low wind chills (-45F). Our heat at the house is having a hard time keeping the house warm. Woke up to it being 62F here in the house. We have it set on 70, but it is just too cold outside and little insulation apparently. (Not too much we can do about it as we rent). Just trying to stay warm today....
ReplyDeleteIt is disgustingly cold here! Last I checked it was -39c!! GO AWAY COLD. lol!! We have our furnace up by 2 notches (22c) and have put blankets under our doors, and put some Saran Wrap & tape on the lowest panel of our stained glass door as we figured out there's a huge breeze coming from it! BRR!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you are on the upswing. I have prayed and talked about you. I'm a worrier. I think soon you will see this is a blessing not a curse. I'm proud of you for putting one foot in front of the other and moving on with life.
ReplyDeleteIt's cold here too. YUCK! It's a balmy 0. I may break out the capris.
It's still cold here but the end is in sight. Its supposed to be around 30F this weekend. We have plans to take the kids sledding.
ReplyDeleteI've lived in the US Northeast most of the last 36 years(since college)-the last 27 in northeastern PA, and I think today I hit my cold limit. Every time I have to let the dog out(and I about have to PUSH her rear out the door it's that bad. lol)a string a bad words fly outta my mouth.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in the heat and humidity of the Southern US and I never did well with that and I never wanted to go back down there in retirement, but after today, I am rethinking this. The deep South , Texas or New Mexico aren't looking so bad right now....LOLZ
Stay warm everyone!!!
You had the day off? Well, you could have come to dig us out!!
ReplyDeleteJane x
wish I were off- supposed to be but called out for overtime...I want the money though- starting my Dave Ramsey small group course this coming Sunday. I want to retire asap so need to get in shape to do so! It's freezing down here (last few days) but only around 24 or so...yes that's freezing for Houston TX we are NOT used to this kinda stuff though it's hit us a few times the last 5 yrs or so...usually 40's or a quick overnight dip to 32 is our record but not this time- a few years ago I had an outside faucet bust because it hit 16 or so...please don't let it get that cold! think we're warming up now though.
ReplyDeleteguess this is the only computer I can post from LOL!
Susanna
Strange about the computer Susanna but glad you have a way to post finally :) This weekend its supposed to RAIN - how weird is that after record breaking cold temperatures!
ReplyDeleteNothing I would have liked better..heeheehee!
ReplyDeletePoor doggy! I really feel for animals at this time of year, well dogs especially! Can you imagine having to go outside yourself to pee??
ReplyDeleteYikes!
When I look out the window I can FEEL the cold air coming in and I have new windows! Furnace is chugging along just about non stop!
ReplyDeletePoor insulation is not a good situation! That's too bad - sounds like your landlord cheaped out. Most houses out east (PEI) didn't have insulation in them either until recently. When mine was renovated they added insulation thankfully.
ReplyDeleteYou know you're Canadian when you haul out the long underwear lol!
ReplyDeleteI know, I've been told by some other teachers who work at a different schoolboard that they are told the night before whether the schools will be open or not. Sounds like a better practice!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what happened to my reply so here's another just in case the first doesn't arrive wherever it's supposed to. Anyhoo - thank you Sonya Ann..".I heart you" as my daughter would say! <3
