I feel like I'm living in an episode of The Hoarders right now. I just signed my life away for the new "pipe" and then snaked my way through all of the mess to find my bottle of scotch!! Here's to No/Low Spend January! Cheers!
There is so much STUFF piled around each room I just want to find a nice quiet clean closet somewhere and hide til spring. It's 8:45pm and now I get to spend the next couple of hours making a pathway to our bed. Not much sleep was had last night and I feel like I could sleep on the kitchen counter but since I couldn't wash the dishes that's out!
Do you know the hot water tank installers don't even clean up after themselves?? No, we have to go and vacuum up from all the soldering etc - what a MESS! So Carla, I'm letting you know since I've not been able to make comments on your posts tonight that I am procrastinating going down into the basement to get started on the clean up. But any second now I'm going to get my butt off this chair and go down those stairs. Any second now...see ya, bye-bye....
Yah my blog is having a hissy fit tonight! Grrr!!! lol!
ReplyDeleteAre ya off your butt yet?! :P
Get a good nights sleep tomorrow will be better I am sure!!
ReplyDeleteUgh, that has to be frustrating that they can't keep up after themselves. Hopefully the work they performed is a lot better than their house manners.
ReplyDeleteAlso, for cleaning stuff like that... don't hide it! Put it in the middle of the living room or family room. Make it be very visible. It will bother you enough that you will put it away. But whatever you do, don't put it in closets or boxes unsorted. They transcend time and become 100x as difficult to sort/clean up every minute they spend in the closet/box. I know, a lot of my stuff has gone that route...
@ Carla - hey, nice pic of us! I bet those boots keep your feet warm eh? Yeah, got off my butt for a couple of hours, now I'm so excited 'cause it's MY turn for the shower - yay for hot water and plenty of it!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your scotch and let tomorrow take care of the mess (or the weekend). But, I feel for you as I'm experiencing similar money sucking events that were not in the budget.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I never told you the final vet bill for trying to help/save our dog was $2200 and my first electric bill with the addition of a 200 sq ft heated mudroom was about $150 over the norm and December wasn't all that cold. We thought we were conserving rather well with a low setting in there at 14 and I don't even heat the upstairs... just a 300 watt dish heater under hubs computer desk and a 400 watt one on my night stand used when I read and don't want my hand to get frost bite (I tend fall asleep with it on and wake up after an hour or two to shut it off :oP ).
So.. the mudroom temp is now set to 8ÂșC which is warm enough when coming inside from the cold all dressed in winter gear. Are you feeling my pain now? LOL! If you were close enough, I'd be over to have a drink of that scotch with you! Happy New Year nothin'!
I want to hear about the yert!
ReplyDeleteI was i the bathtub this morning, when the door bell rang, it was the sewer man, then the phone rang and then the dog and cat started to fight. So here I am soaking wet in a robe with this young man at the door a cell phone in my ear and the animals trying to kill each other at my feet. What a way to start the morning.
ReplyDeleteOH NO!!!! I hope you get a good night sleep!!! sounds like you could really use it!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I'm reading these posts and thinking murphy gave you the 1 2 punch. Maybe this is covered by insurance???? I know I have coverage for these sort of things. I probably wouldn't use it until it reached a level like this, because we have a $500 deductible. Maybe you should check and then you can replenish your emergency fund.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck for a new shiny-er, dry-er new year! (with plenty of tea)
Oh.my.gosh. It's like I'm living last January all over again! It will get better though.
ReplyDeleteHope you got some rest!!
I'm glad things are fixed with the hot water! Hot showers are such a wonderful thing!!
ReplyDeleteSeems like you've got some things to look through and decide whether they are providing joy in your life or not?
Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise?
Miss Jane, I'm sincerely sorry that this crap is happening to you. What a mess!
ReplyDeleteYour Friend, m.
That is nasty that they didn't even clean up the mess! I must say that I got away lucky when my hw heater died before christmas. $525, they haul away the old, put in the new one,and "to code" gas line and I own it - not rent. What gives in Ont?!? Sounds like a huge rip off!
ReplyDeleteOh and as a freebie/perk - 2 of the cutest installmen that you have ever seen!! ;) (totally cleaned the mess, couldn't even tell they were there)
Well sis, not the way one want's the start the New Year..but at least I know you are safe and sound..heard about all your snow and wind and wondered if you guys, yurt and all got blown into the lake! Once you get everything reorganized, it will be done for the year! Our hot water heater went a couple of yrs. ago but I noticed a few drips here and there and caught it before it flooded..we had to have new pipes outside..won't have to wash floors for awhile! Glad it wasn't worse..love L.Dee
ReplyDelete@ Michelle - no, I didn't how much your vet bill was, that kinda puts a ding in the ol' monthly budget!! Michael is all set to use Tilly lamps when we move out east - the electrical rates are through the roof!! My electric bill last month was $55 and my gas bill(heat, dryer, water tank) was $59. The tank installer wanted to sell me a new furnace to decrease my fuel bill - when I told him what my bill was he almost fell down. I seem to have pretty good control around here with the utilities though my daughter complains about how cold she is haha, so for Christmas I gave her a new robe and new heavy duty bedding for her new bed! I don't let anybody touch that thermostat!!
ReplyDelete@Borrower - is that really you??? Welcome back - I'm heading back over to your blog to catch up!! I missed you!
ReplyDeleteI'm behind as always in reading and just found out about your flooding disaster. How fortunate you were able to find someone in the night to come 'suck out' the basement. We've learned a lot about contractors in the last two years and it seems no one ever cleans up after themselves. A very annoying habit.
