Today I spent six hours up in my multi-purpose room which combines a guest bedroom, family TV room, my dressing room and the cat's room. It was ugly and I almost gave up before I started. But with the vision of Carla's super cute wallet dangling in front of my eyes I persevered. I filled 2 garbage bags with well...garbage...and another 3 garbage bags with clothing donations, a bag full of shoes (which are really hard for me to part with BTW), a large comforter we no longer use plus a box of other donations PLUS 2 large bags of coat hangers. Just wait til you see the photos! Possibly tomorrow, if not then Saturday for sure. So I've surpassed by far the 29 donated/purged items required for the challenge!
Here's a wee glimpse of what I was up against. There is a guest bed under all of that crap somewhere! I hope there's no forgotten guests! The 2 small bins on the left were full of 1/2 used toiletries from the sale of the trailer, the clothes basket is full of clothes from the trailer, some donations from Kazi, and yes that is my Halloween wig hanging from a floor fan that doesn't work anymore.
This horrible mess is my clothes closet. There are also clothes hanging off the door knobs as well as from hangers on the tops of the doors. And waaaaaaaaaaay too many shoes. But I like shoes. Shoes make me happy. I hate getting rid of shoes, it's like getting rid of close friends. I can hardly stand to look at this picture!
Right now I need a break. I didn't even eat lunch! I was up there for SIX, 6 hours with just coffee to sustain me. (Don't worry - I had breakfast earlier and since I've come down I've eaten again. I tried on several pairs of pants and am happy to report that I now fit into a few more pairs so that helps out my wardrobe a great deal!
The bad news is I moved things, lifted things, carried heavy bags down the stairs and out to the garbage and my lower back is aching. Not sure if I'll bike tonight. I'm trying to do every other day on the bike and pedaled 20km last night. Only 360km til I get to Philadelphia so sure hope Judy gets back online soon!
So that's my news for today - it was an easy peasy NO spend day as I didn't leave the house except to get my recycle bins. It's exam week and today is exam review day and since my students don't write exams they didn't have to be at school today and neither did I! So I put my time to good use, you know, making hay while the sun shines.
I'm thinking on Saturday I will attack the "dreaded challenge" which for me is the linen closet - I'm scared of that monster!
Way to go, Jane! It sounds like you did a tremendous amount of work today. 6 hours...phew! Take it easy tonight and go easy on your back.
ReplyDeleteWe're all really getting into the spirit of this challenge. It's awesome! :)
WOW, great job!!! I know how you feel, my body has been revolting since the challenge started!! I didn't think I was a shoe person until I was cleaning out my closet, Ha It was more of I haven't thrown any out in a long, long time. LOVE the quilt on your buried bed.
ReplyDeleteWonder if Judy was using Blogger? I had mind shut down today until I updated with google chrome. HATE IT!!!!
ReplyDeletewow I'm impresed! I like that quilt on the bed! I Need to get that kind of energy!
ReplyDeleteReally! I've thought about switching to Wordpress or getting my own domain but too lazy! I think Judy's blog was with Blogger!
ReplyDeleteFunny - that's the "quilt" (actually just a cheap comforter) that I got rid of today:)
ReplyDeleteThanks - if you want I can send you the "quilt" but you'll be sadly disappointed...it's just a cheap comforter lol! I'd rather YOU sent ME a quilt!
ReplyDeleteYes, we're all gungho that's for sure! I don't think Carla knew what all was going to blossom out of this challenge!
ReplyDeleteI love to dejunk!! Love it, love it, love it! I would get rid of everything we own. Needless to say everyone panics when the mood strikes me.
ReplyDeleteaww it's pretty! but then I'm a sucker for quilts- cheaters whatever LOL. I have a mass produced quilt I may have to ditch as well - gonna try washing it and if it makes it it makes it - otherwise out it goes
ReplyDeleteLOL 2 of us like the 'quilt'! a friend of mine had a realy pretty pastel blue country floral looking one and wshed it - that was it. it tore and started coming apart.
ReplyDeletewhat colors do you lie? May be Ihave something already started LOL!
I think it was blogger too. wish she'd get back up - I really m iss her posts!
ReplyDeleteYou did good Jane, sorry about your back, de-cluttering is hard work!
ReplyDeleteGood Job! I'm very proud of you. And congrats fitting into your pants. I should be so lucky. Into my own pants, not yours. I can't believe you have time to declutter and bike to Philadelphia. That means, you're just around the corner from my place. I better get to cleaning too. I know how you are about tidiness!
ReplyDeletem.
we are twins, my lower back is killing me also after yesterday. However it does feel good to have got it all done!!!
ReplyDeleteGill
WOW! that is pretty awesome! Great job!
ReplyDeleteWow Jane! It's kind of inspiring, I think I am going to clean my bedroom today. Ever since my husband has been gone it's kind of been neglected.
ReplyDeleteI've been on a 365 Decluttering campaign since last year. It is amazing how much stuff we accumulate that is really unnecessary. I am on a bigger declutter at the moment but have to tackle the bathroom closet, was hoping to get to it this week but have been avoiding it.
ReplyDeleteYou worked hard there Jane!
ReplyDeleteKudos
Hope it doesn't fall apart in the washing machine!
ReplyDeleteYes, I DID work hard, I was procrastinating doing my schoolwork so this seemed like a good project lol!
ReplyDeleteThe linen closet is next on my list and I'm NOT looking forward to it - things fall on my head when I open the door!
ReplyDeleteThanks Niki - I set up my bags and boxes, drank a couple cups of caffeine and dove right in and now, thank God, it's done!
ReplyDeletethanks JP!
ReplyDeleteI guess we're not as young as we used to be lol!
ReplyDeleteThat's right - after Judy's you're next!! I'm pedaling like mad!
ReplyDeleteYes, de-cluttering is a lot harder than buying the stuff in the first place. It sure makes me think twice about buying anything more!
ReplyDeleteI go in sprees; once I get started I'm like you - nothing is too sacred in my eyes!
ReplyDeleteme too - would hate for a $50 brand new from HSN quilt to fall apart and cost me a $1000 washing machine!! eeks!! I'm a little worried about it though - washed a cheater my mom had bought that was hand quilted(supposedly!) and part of it came undone. I have (ironically) one more of the same cheater but my aunt's church group(and her) hand quilted it and it's decorative LOL! well I'd probably use it some but still..not gonna roll on the floor or let the dogs sleep on it.
