- get back to carving - it's been a couple of years since I started anything and I miss it; unfortunately it's one of those activities that requires a lot of time alone and a workshop. I used to carve when I went to the trailer (alone). I'll take something with me this summer IF I can fit my rather large toolbox in the car. Above are a few examples of my work - I like to carve in wood, soapstone, stone, fossils and plaster of paris.
- grow? grind heritage grains for baking my own bread, buns, muffins etc NO MORE refined flour
- grow blueberries and make my own cordial
- horseback riding - as a child I rode almost every day and I sure do miss it
- have a dog
- raise chickens
- travel travel travel
- get back to my genealogical research - this is a hobby that takes up a LOT of time but one that I have continued on from my mother's research. Haven't renewed my membership with ancestry.com for the past few years, just don't have the time
- visit the places where my ancestors originated from, for example Dickleburgh in South Norfolk County
- write write write
- photography - set up a dark room
- build a barn to house my many hobbies and gardening equipment
- walk the medieval pilgrimage to St. James Compostela
- visit all of the romanesque and gothic cathedrals that I studied at university
- build a yurt (B&B)
That'll do for now, but I will revisit this list from time to time to update. Do you have some "things to do" that you are putting off until retirement??
Well one of my ancestors is practically a neighbor of yours! She lived in Wells, Norfolk, UK, born 1683.
ReplyDeleteLove your list, Jane!! The only thing on my list is to travel somewhere on my "dreamlist" someday!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the list Jane - In have a huge list...I'm hoping have the time to do everything on it :)
ReplyDeleteQuite a list my friend. Love the sculptures! I have the one you did for me in the formal frontroom on a china shelf. When you are famous I will let everyone know you carved it for me. Still want you retirement home.
ReplyDeleteI love your list! I know you will accomplish everything on your list plus some!
ReplyDeleteYour caved work is so beautiful, very peaceful looking, and your sweet little house Oh My!! Already in retirement for me, I try to get as much in each day as I can!!!
ReplyDeleteYour carvings are wonderful Jane, you do really beautiful work. Great idea to plan what activities you'll do when you retire. I've heard a difficult aspect of retirement is that people sometimes don't think about what they'll do to fill their days and they're left a bit directionless.
ReplyDeleteThe carvings are beautiful. You are so talented Jane!
ReplyDeleteawwww thanks Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI won't ever be directionless - just the opposite - I have TOO many directions that I'd like to go!
ReplyDeleteI'm forever amazed at what you accomplish each day!!
ReplyDeleteSure hope so as I keep thinking of more!!
ReplyDelete"When you are famous" - haha, you might have a long wait on your hands LOL! But I'll do my best!
ReplyDeleteI have more to add to my list too - I ALSO hope I have enough time to do it all - that's why I want to retire EARLY!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be a riot if we were related!!
ReplyDeleteYou are a carver, I am impressed. Yes, you MUST get back to carving again (among your many other to-do's!).
ReplyDeleteYour list is wonderful - quite eclectic - why am I not surprised?
I don't really have a to-do list any more. I'm happy taking each day as it comes. I suppose exploring Canada in a VW van is on the list ... hmm, I guess I have a few things - maybe I'll copy you and do a blog on my own bucket list, ha ha.
Looking forward to seeing you this summer!
wow! that's some list - and here I thought youwere going there to relax LOL! I dunno about growing my own wheat but the hobbies sound good! nice work!
ReplyDeleteImpressive carvings and impressive list! You're an inspiration. I'm a
ReplyDeleteloooooong way from retirement, but I imagine my list including the
following: reading and lots of it, playing piano regularly (I used to
teach back in high school, but I'm incredibly rusty now), learn to play
guitar well enough to strum and sing around the campfire, hike lots,
travel to hither and yon with lots of eating, walking and taking cooking
classes, volunteering... that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure
you'll be one of those people who are just as busy after retirement as
before, and you'll wonder how the heck you ever had time to work!
I can't leave a comment on your post about a certain person waking you up so early. He is just an overachiever in the bedroom is all.
ReplyDeletethat all sounds amazing!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll pass your comment on to Michael - he'll be thrilled to have his bedroom prowess recognized :) :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, learning to play guitar is something I want to do too!! And drums...yes, really! Both Michael and I want to get behind a "cause" too, but we're waiting til we live there for a while and see what the need is - yes, I'll never be bored!
ReplyDeleteThanks! There's a story about the wheat, I'll get around to sharing that soon!
ReplyDeleteSounds wonderful Jane! Love the Travel, travel, travel!
ReplyDeleteUnder 3 years to go!
Sft x
Sure hope it's under 3 years to go but this year's contract negotiations will tell the tale!
ReplyDeleteAnd THAT's just the starter list LOL!!
